Best Final-year Research Project at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa

The final-year research project titled “Design and Development of a Distributed Voltage Compensator to Enhance the Solar PV Hosting Capacity of LV Distribution Feeders up to the Thermal Limit” was awarded Best Final Year Research Project 2024/2025 at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa. Conducted by Lahiru Roshan Rathnayaka, Lakshitha Rajapaksha, and Janani Chamathya, the project developed a distributed voltage compensator that regulates feeder voltage, corrects undervoltage, and mitigates phase unbalance. Using extensive simulations, real feeder data, and hardware validation, the solution supports higher renewable energy integration for Sri Lanka’s distribution networks under the supervision of Prof. J. P. Karunadasa.
